On these colder days of spring when we are longing for summer, a little comfort food can lift our spirits. This spicy hot chocolate is the perfect solution. Make yourself a delicious cup of spicy hot chocolate or even better two cups and share a quiet moment with a pal sipping the warm, dark, and rich flavours.
I have provided the ingredients for making two mugs of spicy hot chocolate but truth be known I tend to make the hot chocolate mix in bulk so that I have it on hand to whip up a warming, comforting drink at the drop of a hat. I have included the ingredients list for the bulk amount. I just need one or two tablespoons of the ready made spicy chocolate mix, the non-dairy milk and sweetener of choice and that is everything for two mugs of hot chocolate for a spur of the moment comfort drink. There is an added benefit of having a jar of the spicy chocolate mix in the pantry as I use it for making the Spicy Chocolate Cake.
2 cups non dairy milk
2 tablespoons cacao
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 good pinches of ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon allspice
Pinch black pepper
1 tablespoon date syrup, maple syrup or honey or more to taste
What to do
1. Heat milk and add cocoa, spices and sweetener in a pan until it reaches a gentle simmer.
2. Optional: Give it quick spin in a blender to mix and froth.
3. Pour into mugs and grate a little nutmeg and dark chocolate on the top for a final flourish.
Bulk Spicy Hot Chocolate Mix
20 tablespoons cacao
2½ teaspoons cinnamon
2½ teaspoons all spice
Scant 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Scant 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1. Place all the ingredients into a large jar with a tight fitting lid. Shake well.

It also contains anandamide known as the bliss chemical as well as PEA the so called love chemical! Add to that its high magnesium content making this a drink a treat that tastes good and does you good.
